Learn How to Provide
Safe, Effective, Individualized Trismus Intervention
When's the next course?
The ARK-J Program will offer its next webinar in early 2021.
Please stay tuned for the announcement of the webinar date and time! This self-study webinar is designed to prepare rehabilitation therapists to provide safe, effective, and individualized treatment to adult patients who suffer from speech intelligibility deficits, oral dysphagia, and a diminished quality of life because of head and neck cancer-induced trismus. Please note:
We no longer offer our 2-day, live course. We have decided to make our course information more easily accessible to rehabilitation therapists by moving to an online course model with the option of a 1-day, hands-on seminar for therapists who have taken one of our course webinars and wish to obtain additional training with certification. This hands-on certification seminar has not yet been planned due to COVID-19. |
Are you providing skilled or unskilled trismus therapy?
Skilled trismus therapy means the clinician uses progressive, safe, and tailored exercise prescriptions, rather than than the general jaw mobility device instructions (7-7-7 or 5-5-30). Anyone can read those general instructions and figure it out without a therapist.
A skilled therapist takes into account the patient's individual needs, as well as the pitfalls and dangers of trismus therapy, uses standardized assessment tools, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques. An effective trismus therapist also knows counseling approaches that promote collaboration and the patient's active participation in the recovery process. |
